Description: "The World Center for Women's Archives was a groundbreaking feminist project of the 1930s undertaken by Mary Ritter Beard, a historian, writer and noted suffragist of the early 20th century. The organization’s mission, rise and fall highlight two central themes: the use of archives to preserve and reflect truth; and the preservation of women’s documents as a feminist act nurtured by political, social and historic realities. While exploring the intersection between information studies, history and women’s studies, this website seeks to illuminate an influential, little-known event in the history of the women’s movement. It utilizes technology and digital media as a powerful platform for history, and comments on the importance of memory and preservation in the digital age."
